China tops world output of nonferrous metals for five consecutive years ( 11 Aprl 2007 )

In 2006, China's total output of nonferrous metals reached 19.1701 million tons, up 17.48 percent from 2005. It is the fifth consecutive year China's output has been the highest in the world.

The high price of nonferrous metals has enabled the industry to realize a total profit of 110.03 billion yuan, an increase of 54.87 billion yuan.

Kang Yi, the president of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association said that in 2006, China's output of single variety nonferrous metals was at a record high.

China produced some 2.9989 million tons of copper, 9.349 million tons of aluminium, 2.7355 million tons of lead, 3.153 million tons of zinc, 107,700 tons of nickel, 138,100 tons of tin, 150,100 tons of antimony, 524,200 tons of magnesium and 13,300 tons of titanium.
For all but nickel, China had the highest output of these metals in the world.

Kong Yi said that China's nonferrous metals industry will continue to develop rapidly this year, with prices remaining high as demand grows. However, the industry faces some development challenges, availability of resources, energy conservations, and the strict controls of the macroeconomic policy. – People's Daily Online
